The Singled Person

"The Singled Person" is an installation of eight unsynchronized slide projectors displaying photographs by eight international photographers: Michael Ackerman, Morten Andersen, Lorenzo Castore, Thorsten Kirchhoff, Peer Kugler, André Lützen, Hisashi Murayama and Filippo Romano. It offers a subjective lecture on the relationship of the individual and his environment. The traveling installation is currently on view at the 7th Annual Wiesbadener Fototage through September 25th. This slideshow, set to the sound of a projector, shows a sampling of the work of each photographer.

The light concept of Teresa Mar for the Vienna Karlskirche is based on metamorphosis and image messages, which are only opened for the spectator by repetition. The topic of the metamorphosis fits atmospherically Whitsuntide and the symbolism of the holy spirit in form of the white pigeon, appears repetitively in the projection. This artwork contains of the subtle repetition of different picture elements such as cross, praying hands, pomegranate, passion flower, fisherman/fisherwoman and of symbols as there is the sheep (Whitsuntide aspect), the left current boy, falling man (suffering aspect), the light figure, the EYE (heavenly aspect). Their metamorphosis by light and shade results in the actual image. Projection area on Karlskirche is about 3000 m². Two of the most powerful projectors of the world are used (each 12.000 Watt lamps), specifically 2 PANI BP12-large format projectors, as well as 2 adapted film scrollers CS70 with about 5 meter slide film each.

Have you ever wondered what happened to all those old library catalog cards when libraries went digital? At the Cleveland Institute of Art, students in Professor Richard Fiorelli's foundation design class got creative and transformed boxes of catalog cards into an orchestra of noisemakers. Freshman Christopher Ramos '14 recorded the sounds, manipulated them, and created this sound piece. Then, using photos by librarian Cristine Rom and photographer Rob Muller, junior Michaela Lynch '12 (TIME-Digital Arts) produced this video featuring CIA's Gund Library. "I used the outdated analog slide projectors as an aesthetic starting point and went from there," said Michaela, "adding stop motion, still motion, and all sorts of mayhem." The video premiered to a packed auditorium as the featured musical interlude at CIA's 2011 commencement celebration.

SLIDE PROJECTION EXPERIMENT

This is a little instalation I made around 2006. It uses 2 slide projectors, which project the pictures matching the existing hanger and door. One of the pictures is a negative wersion of another. When you enter a hand (or anything else) into the lightbeam of one of the projectors, the picture from another projector appears within it's shadow. This was a part of my little research on how to make intereactive installations with only slide projectors (no movement detectors or anything like that).

Teen Film Making Camp: Lights, Camera, Action!

Museum London launched its first Teen Camp this summer and partnered with Fanshawe College's Film Production Department to realize a series of short films. Instructor Kelly O'Dette taught the campers about older format for film making, like 8, 16 and 35 mm, and had the teens explore non-conventional equipment such as slide and overhead projectors. Fanshawe College brought the teens back up to date by lending iMacs with Final Cut Pro, as well as other equipment, and student Brittany Farhat was hired to edit the short films. The piece is a visual representation of the idea that hand and analog printing methods are slowly being lost from the design world. The piece communicates this by reversing the print process. The printers become the surface displaying the images, using light as the ink, and slide projectors as the means of reproduction. SVP FS1800 Silver Digital Film & Slide Scanner w/ 2.4 LCD" Overview

SVP FS-1800 Digital Film Scanner is a innovative standalone film scanner that instantly converts 35mm film negatives and slides into digital images without the need for a computer or application software. Now you can preserve all their photo memories by turning the millions of photographs now stored on slides and negatives into digital images to preserve them forever. We have created a very simple-to-use device that works right out of the box and produces a five-megapixel digital image in five seconds at a push of a button. The device features a 5mpix scanning chip (i.e. 2592x1680 pixels, 3600 dpi) producing the images large enough to be printed on a A4 page! Unlike similar devices currently on the market, the SVP FS-1800 Digital Film Scanner does not require a computer or learning a new software program, and it takes very little space to operate, store or transport.
