1870's THMcAllister Optician Magic Lanterns, New York (Set)

Sold in Ebay June 2011. Moved to LA. Description: Both lanterns have dual-element 5-inch condensers and two-burner kerosene lamps, internal and external chimneys, sliding rear access door, and latching side doors. Each has a slide tray and tray holder. Each has a removable stop for the tray holder fastened to the tray slot by a chain. A mounting hole on the bottom of each unit allows one to fasten both to a single board. The base of each unit has a concealed ventilation chamber with offset ventilation holes. Both lanterns have a patina of oxidation from use, especially around the chimney, one a little less than the other, but there is no surface-penetrating rust / severe metal damage. There are numerous places where the finish is oxidized away - as seen most clearly on the rear sliding panels. The bottoms of the units are surprisingly free of rust, suggesting they were operated in humid environments. These are workhorse projectors, and clearly have seen much use. The brass-plated copper lens barrels are inscribed "TH McAllister - New York" and have heavy patinas and loss of brass plating. One rack and pinion focus adjustment is stripped, but focus can still be set. One wick is deeply retracted, and probably should be moistened with kerosene before attempting to raise it. Both kerosene reservoir have copper plates saying: "TH McAllister - M' F' C Optician - New York". The decals on the front of both lanterns are almost illegible, but say: "TH McAllister - Optician - New ...

I used a Sharp RD-670AV cassette recorder .This is a machine intended to use with up to 2 slide projectors. But one can do so much more with this machine. The slide projector outputs could control other devices, or even the Sync input and output can be utilized for recording regular audio or even data, such as a SSTV image as used here. Today I opened the case of the Ektagraphic III ATS machine I just purchased and counted 9 plastic gears, and there are likely more. Though the seller and others have stated that the projector uses metal gears, this is simply NOT the case. Do these people believe there is a need to deceive the public in order to sell these machines, or are they just ignorant of the facts? These slide projectors are extremely complicated electro-mechanical devices. I can tell you that it is a nightmare to attempt to repair anything other than very minor problems on these machines. If you do not consider yourself to be very highly competent in repair of such devices, you should not even attempt a repair because you will probably not be able to put it back together correctly, and in working condition. I successfully repaired my Carousel machine 15 years ago, and was unable to fix it this time though the problem was the same (failure to advance the tray). Failure to advance the tray is probably the most common problem with these machines. I have seen machines for sale on E-bay where the seller explains how fine the machine is except for one "small" problem which is that is doesn't advance. Do not buy a machine that does not advance. It is probably not worth a dime. Furthermore, failure to advance the tray is NOT caused by a gear, plastic or otherwise. It ...

• Variable Timer (use the slider to set it to automatically advance from every 3 seconds to about every 30 seconds)

Kodak Ektagraphic III AMT slide projector Overview

The AMT model was Kodak's best selling professional projector for many reasons. It has every feature offered on the Ektagraphic III series except the integrated pull-out view-screen (to get this feature see the top-of-the-line Kodak Ektagraphic III ATS projector listing). The AMT has the features most will use (auto-focus, remote-focus, variable timer, etc). It projects an excellent picture, and like all the Ektagraphic III machines it is very durable and has better registration than the Kodak Carousel series of projectors (which were made for home use). The AMT did cost quite a bit more new but can be had used now for about the same price as the other Ektagraphic III models.

Supercar - The Vanishing Professor (Bell Films)

Heres a slide show of one of the Supercar stories that Bell Films released back in 1962. It was for a small toy projector that projected the images to a wall. The film itself is 16mm in size. Working Bell projectors are hard to come by now, so heres the next best thing. I scanned the film frames into a slide show & added music backing from Barry Gray's soundtrack. Enjoy!
