Catalog Card Concerto

Have you ever wondered what happened to all those old library catalog cards when libraries went digital? At the Cleveland Institute of Art, students in Professor Richard Fiorelli's foundation design class got creative and transformed boxes of catalog cards into an orchestra of noisemakers. Freshman Christopher Ramos '14 recorded the sounds, manipulated them, and created this sound piece. Then, using photos by librarian Cristine Rom and photographer Rob Muller, junior Michaela Lynch '12 (TIME-Digital Arts) produced this video featuring CIA's Gund Library. "I used the outdated analog slide projectors as an aesthetic starting point and went from there," said Michaela, "adding stop motion, still motion, and all sorts of mayhem." The video premiered to a packed auditorium as the featured musical interlude at CIA's 2011 commencement celebration.

13th Annual Oly Exp Music Fest. - Eric Ostrowski 2 of 4

Live at the 13th Annual Olympia Experimental Music Festival www.duckhugger.com June 24th (Sun) 2007 at 7pm in the Eagle's Hall Basement (Olympia, WA) Eric Ostrowski was the fourth act to perform. Since he was using film/slide projectors there was a little more to see in these videos so I'll put up four of 'em. Here's a short clip I took on a little digital camera. (Apologies for the crap quality. The camera doesn't take well to darkly lit environs (most of which the festival was). Keep in mind I'm only uploading clips from the festival where you can see... erm... something. Lot's of video I took was entirely black with perhaps a light from a PA... so yeah.
